It's certainly THE modification to make, especially on these machines. I have not decided if I'm going to do any more with the engine myself. Seems like any modifications after a pipe force you to be more focused on a certain thing you'll be doing with your quad.

well, got all the new parts in pilot jet 148, new needle from yz450f (is same as stock and gytr jet kit needle, though it has 7 clip settings? huh) installed all the new parts including going up from 170 main to 175. i put the needle on #5 of 7. the stock clip matched up with the 3rd clip on the new needle, where did either of your needles match up, assuming you compared the two? took it for a test ride, pulls much harder through all throttle positions. wheelies in fourth gear are not a problem anymore. can't wait to take it out for a better test ride. thanks for all the help. next mods will be a parachute for emergency stopping and an emergency eject button.

yeah I think mine also matched up to about #3 but I put mine on #6 per the Dr. D website and used a 172 main. Diffinately a big difference in performance.

I think the only other thing I'd buy for now is nerf bars.. I already slipped off the peg and had the rear wheel(paddles none the less) shred on my leg.

K&N Filters definatly squese a few extra HP out rather than the foam filters but if you are running through any water I would seriously advise leaving the lid on. Even with Outerwares over the K&N water can easiely get through and if you gum it up with foam filter oil it will definatly have a harder time breathing. You can do like I did and cut 12 1" holes in your lid and put mini filters in that way your getting more air flow and you dont have to worry about sucking water.

The pipe and filter system you bought will definatly call for rejeting. The company that sells the pipe will get you very close but I tend to go up one size on what is recomended and check your plugs. Its much better to run a little fat then lean.

Also the YFZ Suspension is good but it can be built inexpencivly and feel like an aftermarket shock. Here is the place I would get all of my suspension work done and I see alot of Pro Riders here in PA with GT Thunders dual rate setup and it is awsome. The main spring rate that comes stock with the yfz are setup for a 135lb rider.

2STROKEFUMES, you bring up a lot of good points. I'll probably be asking you for advice down the road on suspension when I get to that point...

Basically, even with a stock airbox lid, you're going to get a little water in the airbox going through big puddles. It's not sealed up like my Polaris Scrambler. Even with airbox lid on, if you take the pressure washer to a YFZ, you'll get water in there. Anyone running with an airbox lid off with any quad should definitely take precautions before diving into a huge puddle of water (or just don't).

In my practice, with a foam-filter oiled filterskin over a frame of an airbox lid like I run, you don't foul up the K&N. Obviously, one wouldn't want to leave the filterskin soaking wet with oil. Just enough oil is needed to keep the filterskin tacky. Next spring when I start cleaning air filters again, I'll have to take some before and after shots. It's amazing to see an almost sparking clean airbox and a K&N that can last for a few months without reoiling. With a crankcase breather present in the airbox, I've even noticed the oil is a bit cleaner...

thanks for the new website, anyone know anything about the r&d powerbowl? it is supposed to fix low end bog, talked to the guy at CT racing he advised doing this before any equialently priced performance mods. what few reviews i have read say it works great, not necessarily a power gain but improves performance a lot.

This is the set up i came up with and it works very good. I posted my airbox cover in my page. In the picture the filter skin is not oiled. They come in 3 packs .
make sure you oil them before you use them. Any filter oil will work. I now only clean my air filter 2 or 3 times a year.
