Help with Warrior
#1
I just purchased a 1999 warrior. Did not run. I put a new battery in it and it cranks over. If I use my truck to jump it and give it some gas it cranks over and starts. Once its warm it will stay running and I can shut it off and start it again. Once it goes cold it will not start with its own battery. I dont seem to get spark when I crank it over with its own battery. What could this be, coil, CDI or maybe somthing else.

Could be bad conections. Try taking loose all the connections from your battery all the way to the starter and clean them with a wire brush or sandpaper until they are shiny hook them all back up and see what happens.
It could be a weak coil or a problem in the CDI or the connections to the coil and/or CDI. In that case the extra boost from your truck battery is spining it over faster and making the difference. Once it is warmed up you dont need as strong of a spark to ignite the fuel and start running. It would more likely be a coil than the CDI. CDI's dont quit very often but coils do. To test the coils you will need a Service manual an Ohmeter and an understanding of how to use it. The CDI can be tested also but will require some values that are not likely in the Clymer
manual and Yamaha dealers will tell you it requires a special machine and you have to bring it to them and be at thier mercy to tell you the truth.

Yup. Crappy battery is also a possibility. Assuming its not a sealed battery, did you fill the fluid to the proper level in all the cells? How long did you ride it with the new battery once you got it started? It may not have been charged well but if you rode for long it should be now.
