My friend has an 06 wolverine 450and had the same problem. If I remember correctly the problem was water getting into the transmission belt. there is a plug on the side of the 4 wheeler that pulls out and drains the water out. He had that problem very often whenever we would ride through water and would have to stop to drain it. Since then he put some type of caulk or something around the case and I dont think he has had the problem since.
