Transmission oil 2000 warrior
#1
Hello
I recently purchased a used 2000 Yamaha warrior, I am trying to familiarize myself with this bike, it didn't come with a manual so I ordered a service manual for it online. The manual mentions nothing about transmission oil(there is a black cap on the side with the shifter that is the transmission oil opening I am pretty sure, flat black cap and a slot for a screwdriver) The gentleman I bought the atv from says he never bothered with it. My question is, is this something that needs to ever be checked? There is no dipstick, or do I need not bother with it, the machine shifts fine.
thanks
chris

I believe that is for access to the crank to advance the motor by hand?
There should be another small piece above it where you can look in and see the markings for top dead center when adjusting the valves.

The oil dipstick is on the other side of the engine (right side if sitting on the bike) from what you were referring to. If the guy before you never worried about it, you may want to change the oil filter, which is on the bottom left side of the engine near the gear shifter. I think the "F" on the flywheel stands for "fire".

F is for fire/spark
If you sit on the quad, look down by your right leg. That cap sticking out is where you check/put oil in. Oil filter is down by your LEFT heel. It will be a round cap with three allen bolts on it. Go to Sears or any hardware store and get yourself a 19 mm 6 point socket for the drain plug. Don't try to use ANYTHING other than a 6 point, 19mm socket. Don't use a 12 point socket or some SAE socket. Trust me on this one.. I have seen way too many striped out oil drain plugs on warriors/big bears.
