The OLD wolverine isnt exactly the same setup as the warrior, the carb is different and so is the transmission. Back when I had and rode Warriors, my buddy had a wolverine "OLD ONE" and we would switch off now and then and I couldnt stand his wolverine compared to the warrior, I smoked him everywhere we went riding on the warrior, the old wolverine's didnt handle near as good as the new ones do. We rode here lately and I was still breaking my new 450 Wolverine in and we both agree that Yamaha got it right with the new 450 setup, hes in the market for a new 450 soon. BTW its a Bruin frame and almost the same engine as the Kodiak/Grizz 450, carb is jetted different and their is no low range, its roughly 75 POUNDS lighter than the Kodiak/Grizz 450 also, suspension is much better on the NEW Wolverines also. Goodluck

yeah the warrior is a 36mm mikuni the wolverine is a 34mm mikuni. But the 95 wolvy had the 36mm and it had a slight stutter at low rpms so they switched to the 34.

yes the tranny is different but the exaust pipes are fully interchangable as is the top end of the engine, which means same cams and pistons etc etc. The wolverine 350 is lighter than the 450 and has a 5 speed semi auto which means you get to shift. I have a polaris I know the difference and for my fun quad I wouldnt want an auto. I mean its a great quad for some but I dont consiter it superior to the old wolverine in any way but displacement (350 vs 450) 450 is bigger than 350, mathmatically.

what was wrong with the 350 suspension unless jumping higher than 4 feet. does the 450 jump higher than 4 feet without distain? havent tried it but I doubt the results are different...

and as to the warrior vs 350 wolvy stock to stock i dunno but my buddy has a warrior with about the same mods as my wolverine has and we have been riding to gether for 8 years or so and we are right at the same place other than a strait away where he has 6th and I dont. maybe you were a better rider than your wolverine counterpart? yeah its not a warrior but its a lot closer to the ride on one than the 450 wolverine is

Default sport bike or sport ute or what the hell?

thanks for the responses, everyone makes some great points and id like to have about every atv ive ever seen so i could have one for every situation but i dont crap money so ill have to do with what i have. As far as what terrain i ride....man if i think i can make it im going for it thats why i bought a helmet, im a fan of the gnarly, extreme and challenging rides. So i can see the need for a 4x4 over another sport bike because like i said "I Ride Alone" except when i get another quad, my girl is going to ride but her aggressiveness level will be nowhere near mine, i mean i sleep agressive, but if anyone has anything else to add id like to hear it....

thanks

Thats the reason I bought the wolvy because its sporty and aggressive with 4x4(not to the tune of 10k $$ like the renegade of course) But like anything else you can always make it better.

im not saying the 450 wolvy is a bad bike but if your not crapping money then for the cost of a 450 you could get a 350 and have lots of cash to mod the 350. I would highly reccomend it seems like you ride just like I do and I promise youd be happy with a wolverine 350...

Yes the 350 is a great bike, the problem with buying a used one(if your in my shoes) you dont have the money in cash to buy it and fix problems and mod it too, I had to finance the wolvy and mod it as I have cash

Acouple things to consider. The 350 is air cooled... Oh yeah, they DO have an oil cooler, but it is still an air cooled design thta has been around for a couple decades. The 450 is water cooled. New design motor. Not the same as in the YFZ, but better design than the old 350. Not to say that 350 isn't a good motor, just something to think about. You can't go wrong with the 350 though, they are bullet proof.
The wolvie 450 4x4 does NOT have diff lock, like the more utilitarian machines have. Still it is a nice machine and I think would fit your needs well. I started out to buy one for my wife, but ended up with the Grizzly 450 for the diff lock. We ride in the mountains, so we need it.
For pure sport machine, I think you already have a decent machine in the garage. Don't even consider the YZF unless you are racing. No way would you want to ride that on trails.

I agree that the warrior is a great platform for a recreational trail rider. modding is easy and cheap for that powertrain. Sure everybody on here has to have the newest but Unless your racing or you have years of agressive riding experience you can do a lot with a warrior. My buddy has a modded warrior that rides right along with our buddy on a piped 400ex
