sport bike or sport ute or what the hell?

right on on guys i can understand that, and like Chris said i dont really have the cash to drop on a used quad all at once and then worry with all the small things that need to be done, dont get me wrong im all about a large down payment and also i want something no one has had their dirty a%# on. I mean 800 bucks for the warrior was a great deal and after the rebuild i will pep it up some more with air filter, pipe and rejetting, will my 88 warrior keep up or pass the new wolverine?

Your Warrior should be alittle faster on the blacktop and fireroads, but once on the tight muddy/rocky trails or loose gravel the Wolverine shines. I really liked the Warriors, one of the best all time ATV's on the market Ive owned a few and never complained about much at all if anything. But I love the new Wolverines, they ride great and run very good for a heavy 4x4, my only complaint so far is that it could use alittle more top-end speed and for around a hundred bucks you can send your clutch to HauchPerformance and get 5 to 10 more MPH and also achieve quicker accelleration without sacrficing drivablity.

Thats cool i mean for the warrior to overtake the wolverine is ok, even though the displacement is much different, weight and experience have alot to do with how good a bike performs, so its looking like the wolverine will take another prisoner as soon as these damn holiday's are over. Thanks for all the responses i knew i liked the wolverine just wanted some actual facts the good and the bad, not one product is or will ever be designed to please every aspect of atv'ing.

what kind of a rebuild are you going to do, high comp piston and overbore with a new cam or what?
as far as it passing the wolv, yhea it will keep up and it will overtake the wolvy for sure on top end, top speed for a wolvy is only like 52-55 mph and i like the warrior with the right gearing is set up for about 60 but im sure one of the other guys can tell you for sure.

I'm surprised nobody here has brought up the Polaris Scrambler 500 4x4. It's changed very little over the years, but it was and probably still is the best of both worlds. I could do _some_ jumping, and then I could switch it in 4x4 at any speed, and hit the mud. I believe it's still faster than the Wolverine 450, and has a good suspension for most trail conditions.
My Scrambler 400 took years of lots of abuse before I threw in the towel and got something new. My love sided more toward jumping and MX so naturally I went with a straight-sport 450 now. If my riding technique had stayed the same, I would certainly have purchased another Scrambler.

that and the wolverine are the only 2 in the 400-500 range for a sport/ute until just recently when can-am made the 500 renegade.
I have just never had good luck with the polaris brand but I know there is a lot of people that have had good luck with them.

I don't want to be nasty, but this is the Yamaha forum.... I actually recently bought a new machine for my wife. We tested the 450 Wolverine and the 450 Grizzly. Ultimately we went with the Griz. Why? Well it really came down to the way we ride. My wife does not intend to see how fast the machine will go, so speed isn't an issue. One thing that is though, is the griz has diff lock, where the Wolvie does not. If you have never needed it, count yourself lucky. I have been there, so it was a must have for me.
I focused on the 450 rather than the 350 because the 450 is water cooled. I have never had an issue with my warrior heat wise, but why ignore the technology when it is there for the taking. We are not talking a large difference in price either. I have to admit though, after seeing the new Raptor 350 the other day, I sure liked what I saw. Still a warrior underneath, but that orange Special edition is quite easy on the eyes.
