Default 1999 Kodiak 400

So I am a newbie to the whole ATV thing but I am looking to get an ATV and plow for winter. There is a Kodiak 400 going for $2500, 1999 and wondering if this is sensible and what I should look out for when I go and have a look.
thanks

You will want a winch for raising and lowering the plow so if it already has one thats a bonus. If the ATV looks and runs good it will plow no problem at all the 400 is geared for that type of stuff.

thanks. Is there anything in particular I should look out for when checking the bike out? Does the 99 Kodiak have any known problems I guess is what I am asking.

The original Kodiak is fine unit. Typically strong engine and average drive train. Gearing in Low range is great for pushing snow. These units are known for poor carbs, tearing up front drive shaft U-joints and engines that run for ever. The foam air filter can get overly oiled, and dirty causing fouled spark plugs. For the most part people get rid of them because the rigid ride quality over newer units with independent suspension or like myself, tired of shifting on long trail rides. The front push bar shows a lot on the wear on these units. If its bent and all the paint is rubbed off, its been obviously used.

There is a 98 on Ebay right now for $2100 and they say it has 630 miles. Its shows more like 6300 miles and maybe 16300 miles. These units don't hold their value as Hondas do so they should be economical. Really the price at $2500 is high unless it includes the plow and the belly skid plate doesn't show excessive usage. Keep in mind, if it looks worn out, its worn out and parts are expensive. And labor is even more expensive.

yeah i have a 2003 yamaha kodiak 400 with a plow and it has worked pretty good for me. i have snow tires on mine and it needs more weight on the back because all the weight is on the front so it spins alot. they dont have diffrential lock so your mostly driving in 3 wheel drive which sucks. other than that there a good atv.
