Quad would run but the power wasn't there. Revs high with little results.
Does this sound like the rings? or what else could the issue be?
What kind of compression reading should I be looking for?

if it's a stock motor your compression should at 140 if it's at or around 120 you need to rebuild.

140-160 is what my manual says....if i were you i would go ahead take the top end off because if it ends up doing what mine did it will score up your cylinder what happebned was my bikes piston blew a hole in it causing there to be no compression what so ever.....if you take my advice tell us what you see...

Thanks guys!
I did blow it up a year ago so it has new top & bottom.
I do have some power starting off so I know I didn't blow a hole in there (ouch!) cause my kids rode it for an hour with minimum power. I hope I won't be regretting that.
Could my clutch be the problem if it's not the rings.

thats exactly what i thought as well because i had just bought it and they i bought it from said it had a brand new vitos clutch and a fresh rebuild well i took it out to st joe state park and the power wasn't there so i thought ok maybe he goofed up installing the clutch....well i kept riding thinkin mayb once it warmed up it will do fine well when i was in the top end it shut down and i had to get pull started like 5 times then the last time it started but it didn't wanna stay runnin so i took the top end off and it ended up being my piston had a hole blown throw it on the exhaust side and that was it.....but the clutch wouldn't have anything to do with the compression beings most people pull in the clutch when they kick it or have it in neutral....have you checked the compression ?

Not yet (want to borrow a gauge rather than buy one) but after your story I
want to pull the jug. The clutch is working okay switching gears but if it is slipping while riding wouldn't I have the same feel - loss of HP?

yeha you definitly feel a loss but i would check your compression first just to be sure it isn't the clutch. because if you take the top end off you automaticly have to by a gasket kit.even though to check your clutch you have to drain your oil you won't be in so much money....your call

Checked the compression, was 140...yea. I forgot to mention I tightened the clutch lever cause it was pretty loose. Didn't think that would be an issue but now I'm hoping my clutch isn't toast. Any advice? I'm pretty green on clutches.
