Default YFZ timing chain skipping ?

So I got my sisters quad apart because all of a sudden it started running horrible. I pulled the head and the timing was off. I put it all back to stock. It starts fine but when I give it a good rev I can hear it skip and the motor kills of course. The chain tensioner is functioning properly. Its an 04, could I just need a new chain?

How many teeth was the timing off the first time? If the motor starts fine it's not the timing chain.

Default YFZ timing chain skipping ?

it was off probably four teeth. sorry I desribed the problem bad. So after I rev it and I hear it skip it wont start untill I pull the head again and put the timing back. So I know its skipping but I just dont want to buy a new chain if it the chain guides or the cams themselves, but I dont think it would be anything else? right? Thanks!

If the cam chain is tight i would check the cam sprockets. Also check the valve clearance. If the valves are tight it might put added stress on the cam and chain.
