Sounds like the air leak is in the choke system. Its actually an enrichener, and gas is upposed to be added when you pull it on. Something in the enrichener is leaking air. Look over how it is in the carb, and check the rubber pieces for rips or dirt holding it away from the walls.
Did the pilot jet get changed?
Are all the pieces for the mixture screw still in the proper arraignment? Screw, spring, washer, oring?

I think you should screw it back in to what it was. Isolate the problem first. Then work on fine tuning it... Did you change the clip on the needle at all? You should probably go up one... What jet was sent with the pipe? I'm assuming a main jet? Like HB said... You shoud check for leaks first...

Ok I'll check for leaks. The choke problem didnt start til I adjusted the mixture screw. I haven't had the mixture screw completely out to see if everything was in proper alignment. The only thing that sucks is to adjust the mixture screw I gotta loosen the carb up completely and turn it sideways to get to it. I'll try screwing it back in the whole way and starting over and see if that changes anything. I havent changed the clip on the needle and the main jet that came with the pipe was a 175. I'll first check for leaks like you guys said. Guess I shoulda just taken in to a professional in the beginning insteada me messing with it! Thanks guys for your input. I'll let ya know what I come up with.

Just to clear things up... you did screw it all the way in... and then out 2 1/2 turns right? Do you know how many turns it took you from factory to all the way in?

What was the factory main jet that you pulled out?
