Default 125 Breeze

My sons 1992 Breeze seems to have developed a gear shift/transmission problem, and I am hoping someone in this forum can help.

It shifts into Fwd or Rev no problem when cold but when he stops after riding it awhile it is really hard to get out of gear, almost locked in gear. Don't notice any problem when travelling though. I checked the oil level and it was fine, then tried changing the oil, installed Yamalube engine oil based on the manual and local dealer recommendations but still same problem.
Anyone seen this or have experience with these trannys? Would sure appreciate any help you can offer instead of paying the dealer a fortune.

I think the engine and tranny have separate oil fills, so try checking the level on the tranny , and if necesary add or change. I cant find my service manual right now, but just going off my memory, I think they are separate.
If you dont have a service manual, they are on ebay for under 10 bucks on cd. And there may be an adjustment to the linkage, which would be desribed in there.

Thanks hondabuster, Yes the tranny and engine are separate oil fills. I changed the transmission oil (just so happens the recommended lube is engine oil).
Been thru the manual I have several times and cannot find anything related to this. Appreciate your input.

This probably isnt the problem but does the engine idle back down after warmed up.I thought maybe if its idling to fast that might make it hard to shift.I'm thinking though it would probably shift but would grind real bad.might try idling down just to make sure.good luck

Good point, if the idle is too high, it will be difficult to shift. If you shut the motor off, does it shift ok?

Sorry for not replying, been away a couple days.
Had never thought of the idle, but yes it does seem to idle right back down. And I realize now that even after shutting the engine off the shifter is still very difficult to move... sounds like a mechanical issue somewhere in the transmission. Just seems odd that when things are cold it shifts well.
