Default WASHING AN ATV?

I wash my ride all the time after riding, I bring a pressure washer with me on my riding trips. I meet a rider on the trails and he tells my I should be washing my ride
while it running. Have I been doing something wrong ?

Default WASHING AN ATV?

sentence structure dont know what your asking... U saying you do wash while running or you dont?

"I wash by ride all the time"

"tells my I should be washing my ride
while it running"

i usually wash mine with it turned off and make sure to run after i finish washing to evaporate and vibrate water out of all those places you dont need it to be sitting.

Spraying ice cold water on a VERY hot machine does provide a low but real risk of cracking part of your engine from the temperature change so rapidly.

That help?

I usually stop somewhere at a carwash on the way home after its cooled and pressure wash it then run it for a minute to warm up.

I've always washed mine while its not running.I dont know why you would need for it to be running.

Your advice was probably based on making sure no water gets in the exhaust. Get a plug on one of the performance websites. Rockymountain has 'em.

I do like almost everyone else. I wash em after cool down, and run them to eliminate moisture in and out. They stay clean and don't seem to have any problems that way.

As an aside, I was chatting with an older timer than myself the other day, and he told me, back when 3wheelers were all the rage (and everywhere) they used to spray the plastics with WD40 before riding (top and bottom). That Helped make 'em easy to clean after the ride. I plan on tryin' it out next time I ride.

Just a thought for ya.

What I always do after a ride is stop sit down have a beer or 2 this allows the machine to cool down. Then I'll wash it, but before i wash it, i put one of those exhaust plugs in to stop water from going down. You can pick one up at your local parts dealer for a couple a bucks. Then when i'm feeling more energenic (the next day) i'll do more of a detail and tune up.

Just the plastics Tom,.......Just the plastics. I have a Badger with a non-gripper seat cover on it. I can barely keep from coming off the back end of it with the kids. Almost have to put some of that drawer/shelf liner stuff under me.

Good point though.
