Now that I have my Raptor tuned perfectly - (took long enough)I want to add a tachometer. Does anyone have any idea of what I should be considering as far as functionality and reliability are concerned. I am anxious to make this purchase so let me know if you would.

Thanks BJ

In the dennis kirk atv magazine they have a thing called a "tiny tach" costs around $50-60.. going to get one for my blaster asap, Though I do believe it strictly for 2-strokes but could be wrong... Probally your best bet would be a denniskirk street cycle magazine, I bet they have something in there that would work. Have one kicking around here somewhere, Ill look through it and let you know..

Just flipped throught the dennis kirk street cycle catalog, they have one that will probally work, says "accuratley measures engine speed, fits most models and operates off a 6 or 12 volt current" kind of pricy though, $130.. hell go to VIP.. mabe they have something??

My buddie just got one for his warior straight fro his yamaha dealer for around 40 bucks. It is very simple to instal. Only took us 10 minutes. It uses a wire to pickup spark signal from spark plug wire. It will also keep track of engine hours.

Felt I needed to add a tach also to see if I am getting into the limiter so I bought one through northern tool, around $40, and made in the USA [ WOW, we can make neet stuff!] Nice little unit but it is too small of a readout to see doing 70+ mph and it is not imediate , has hesitations ,and just not what I expected. Will probably keep it, just for the hour meter to keep up on maintainance better. I want a mechanical one but not sure if the engine has a port for one, didn't locate anything on engine, but thinking that they must have on for its use on the euro-only motorcycles. Any info would be helpful. Or maybe I'll just run it like I usually do, throttle pegged , teeth exposed, you know, and not worry about it. Love this site. Maybe I'll just let all you Raptor heads figure out what mods I need to do when I get the time and funds to pump mine up. Later. Black / White RAPTOR
Dg bumper
AC skids
Dura-blue hub spacers
Sticker that reads;
Yes its fast,
No you can,t ride it

Many mods to come

Take a look at http://sendec.com
I got a tach/hour meter for $33.95. You can see mine at http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/raptorridersofnorthtexas under photos
It is slow ro react but I have only mounted it and have not ridden with it. Probably much better ones out there but for more money.
