I recently picked up a Yamaha moto4 but it has no model designation on it (it is older)... th eonly thing i have is the vin number off the frame... Jy42VYA01J0001146... how can I tell what year and model this is so I can be sure I am getting the correct parts for it?

I've seen these request a lot lately:
Modern VIN Numbers have 17 Digits total.

The 10th Character of the VIN is the year model

B = 1981 , C = 1982 , D = 1983 , E = 1984 , F = 1985 , G = 1986 , H = 1987 , J = 1988, K = 1989

L = 1990 , M = 1991 , N = 1992 , P = 1993 , R = 1994 , S = 1995 , T = 1996 , V = 1997 , W = 1998 , X = 1999

Y = 2000 , 1 = 2001 , 2 = 2002 , 3 = 2003 , 4 = 2004 , 5 = 2005 , 6 = 2006 , 7 = 2007 , 8 = 2008

Thanks... do you kno whow to tell what enigne I have on this... I cannot find the size of it on the engine anywhere... it smokes and it is hard ot start/backfires. I am guessing it needs the timing chain and the top end overhauled... but don't want to get going on it until I figure how which engine I have... it is an 1988 moto 4
