The polaris trailblazer might be a quad to consider.
A lot of women like them for the comfort, ease of use, and reverse.
Now before you say "ahh the reliability is'nt quite up there" the trailblazer was tested in an issue of dirtwheels against the recon in a 24 hour torture test.
The polaris lasted the whole 24 hours with only one problem, a broke rear shock from a roll over at 30mph, but polaris has improved the rear shock for 2000.
The test riders said "the trailblazer ran as good at the end as it did when we first started it".
With the new concentric drive system belt slippage is a thing of the past.

All three bikes mentioned would be a good quad for her. Instead of making a really expensive mistake, sit down and find out which would best suit her. Does she, or can she use a manual clutch? Not just around the house, but how well will she be able to use it in riding conditions? Would she do better with an autoclutch, or a fully auto tranny? How about price? A Warrior will run about $5000, a 250EX about $3800, and the TrailBlazer about $3200. Take her to different dealerships, and let her ride each. Make sure you get her a helmet.

I bought my fiance' a 2001 Warrior back in August and she loves it. She has ridden it at the Bad Lands in Attica a few times, on all the trails without any trouble. She enjoys doing donuts, wheelies and even jumps it from time to time. I think your wife will enjoy a warrior if she doesn't mind shifting.

I am a woman and I have a 2001 Warrior. I would say if your wife can drive a stick shift, she can handle the manual clutch on a Warrior. I picked it up in about the first 10 minutes of riding a quad for the first time in my life, but I think that's because I have always driven stick shift vehicles. Once you fully understand the clutch, and how it works, it's a no-brainer, and you can concentrate completely on your riding. I shift regularly without even using the clutch, now. If she isn't too familiar with a stick shift, then an automatic clutch would still be pretty easy, and she could still maintain some control. I think a fully automatic quad would be boring. If she is very competitive, and needs to keep up with the boys, then she would like the Warrior!

I agree that your wife would probably find a fully auto quad boring. I currently have a Honda Recon (manual shift, auto clutch)and soon may have a Banshee. I enjoy shifting and feel that the clutch on the Banshee won't be a problem after a few hours of riding. The Warrior, 300ex, or 250ex would be in the realm of good possibilities...you just have to assess her level of bravery! Good luck finding one for her; we need more women riders out there!
