This is the wolverine I recently bought.
It runs good, but I'm having a problem with the clutch.
I was told that the clutches were burned out when I bought it. I got new plates, clutch and metal, and new springs. I replaced them. The old ones looked OK to me, but they could have been bad.
I have adjusted it like the manual says. Turn adjustment screw counterclockwise, "decrease" until you get resistance and then back 1/8 turn.
The clutch still seems to be slipping. I'm not getting the power I expect and it doesn't pull up a hill like I think it should.
It shifts much better now and that is good, but it should be much better.
If I take off, it doesn't have the speed I expect. The engine doesn't rev up as high as I think it should and it isn't as fast as I would think.
It will stall without putting power to the wheels instead of burning rubber.
I have checked the throttle cable, air intake, and a few other things.
There is a rev limiter for when it is in park, but it seems to be a switch that is either on or off and it is working as far as I can tell.
Can anyone help? Have you had similar problems? Am I missing something in the transmission? It there a torque converter that is causing me problems?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

when i adjusted my clutch on my big bear, i just turned the screw a little then tightened it then rode it. i had to do that a couple of times to get the feel back. what happened was i bought my 99 big bear after it had sat outside for 7 years uncovered with the seat off and the carb plumbing removed. the machine never got anything other than an oil change (i personally know the previous owner) and that is all he did. oil changes every 6 months as defined in the service manual for that model.
so after i put it in the shop to get it running, i get it out and putt around the woods here for a month or so. just to make sure everything was ok before i took it on a serious workout. so i take it out on its maiden voyage for myself, and it gets ridden very hard. after i get it back home and moved it the next day, the clutch was slipping. it had never been adjusted. i adjusted it and it runs as strong as ever.
