660r dies in 2nd and 3rd gear

Well my buddy bought an 05 660r with trinity racing cams,lrd pipe and silencer.Whenever he shifts into 2nd and 3rd it dies.It backfires whenever he downshifts.Any suggestions as to what is wrong?
