How old are you?? If you have never really ridden hard..I would suggest a 450 Wolverine (get a nice used one to start with though)They are a great all around machine..If you like the more sport side of riding, I suggest a Raptor..I don't think I say a novice is ready for a 700 though ..And the 350 is to small..DO NOT BUY a YFZ450..Just because it says 450 does not mean these are smaller more easy machines to ride..These machines are for experienced riders..

Wrong forum?

No "bikes" here--just quads. Might want to find a dirt bike forum for better advice.

Being an avid dirtbiker back in the day.. I agree with your point... but unfortunately... some owners of quads have the need to call their Quad a Bike... I laugh when I hear it.... so I figure that this guy is just one of them

Now to answer the OP:

Depends on what you want -- Sport (2 wheel drive), Sport/Utility (4x4 usually with a straigth rear axle) or Utility (Independent suspension all around and usually has 4x4 low range)

As Toddmh had stated The Wolverine is a good start -- that way you can figure out if you like the sport side of it more or the 4x4 side of it more... or heck you may just like the machine for what it is worth!

I again agree -- go used for a first quad... there are some good deals out there...

If your age permits, and if you want a sport "bike", the 400EX or Z400 would be great choices.

Yeah, I noticed the Aussies like to call them "Quad Motor Bikes" which doesn't make any sense either. Wouldn't a "Quad Motor Bike" have 8 wheels?

But I know what the OP meant. I was just flipping him chit! Sorry for getting off topic.

I am on my first quad. I have a wolverine. it is a great balance between sport and utility. I can go most places that my friends on big bores can go but the quad is smaller and easier to manuver. If it wasn't for ground clearance there would not be much they can do that I can't. The only regret I have with it is the size of the seat. They deffinitely are not made for a passenger. I am looking at getting a Grizzly for that reason, but I for sure won't be getting rid of the Wolverine.

If I could do it over I would have bought mine used. But you have to be smart about it when you go down that road to make sure you aren't buying someone's abused machine. I also would look for the newer body styling. I have ridden some of the older Wolverines and they really don't compare. I think 05 might have been the year they started with the newer body styling and mods.

Good Luck and make sure to ride the quad before you buy it.
