I've had a ZX9R that felt comparable to the R1, but I may have to disagree with you on the 7R Either way, Kawy makes a mean machine. If you remember, the '98 ZX9R was the first production street bike to break the 9 second barrier in the 1/4 mile!

wheeliedude,

That's a good suggestion. The GPS was actually in a 'poncho' type pocket on my sweater. I think I may order the handle bar bracket for the GPS and give it another run, although I'm not really expecting anything different. Also, while in a car it's covered by the roof (duh) and has never lost a signal, but who knows? Thanks for offering something useful.

74.1 Mph I think thats speeding, and for being a fed;
1. you should know better, racing up and down your street...bad
2. write yourself a speeding ticket
Just kidding

I don't know what every one is complaining about I think that speed is outstanding for a quad. I don't have a clue as towards your size but try a lighter rider and see if it makes a difrence on you GPS.

BlueRap,

Good point and very observant! Some of my neighbors think I'm Big Brother, it's pretty amusing. Anyway, I'm 6'0" and 195 lbs. and you're right, size does make a difference. Maybe if I put my 105 lb. wife on it, it will run 98.38567397904435 mph?

I'm not sure if thats totally correct, I have a garmin IIIplus and I pulled 79.6 with my 2001 raptor. I have a Gyt-r silencer 155,160 mains, 25 pilots the rest of the motor remains stock.

Raptorcised,

Have you modified the airbox, snorkel or lid?

Birdofprey:

I'm sure that r1 and 9r are faster...But on the streets...it's all about the same...they all (from 600cc up) rip your arms off..pull wheelies and break necks.
How do I know? At age 19 I went to race school in New Hampshire....as you can guess I though I was hot stuff when I got out.
In 1991 I broke my neck. It was not my fault...I was doing all of 15mph when it happened. I recovered...and even rode after that. I will never own another sportbike though.... In my opinion...worthless. Unless riding back and forth to work. Or a nice summer ride. It never happens that way though...before you know it...wheelies and 130mph runs up the highway.
It's thrilling until reality kicks in.

I'm sure everyone here is posting the TRUE speeds they are viewing from their GPS units. But you have to admit, it's a little funny how the speeds keep getting a little bit faster as the post continues to grow. Maybe just a coincidence?

sAyIt_fmf,

I hear EXACTLY what you're saying and that's why I'm getting rid of my R1. Even though I do use it mainly for communiting to work in nice weather and sunny weekends, I'm just getting too comfortable on it and I can see the writing on the wall. Everything that's fun on the bike is illegal. Cruising along at the speed limit is sooooo boring (the bike starts to feel comfortable at around 90). Then you get all the obnoxious cages (that's 'cars' to you non-crotch-rocket folks) putting around the streets and you start getting really impatient and doing things you shouldn't do at speeds you shouldn't be going...you know the routine. Anyway, I totally agree with you.
