04 grizzly carb
#1
Hello, I just got an 04 660 grizzly to replace my old 350 moto 4 and 350 big bear. The thing has sat around alot and the carb was gummed up. I got the carb cleaned up and it won't idle right, also turns the exhaust pipe red at an idle. Any ideas ? I thought about a new carb but I figured I would ask here first.
Thanks for any and all replies!

Pilot jet is clogged, 9 out of 10 times thats why it wont idol and exhaust overheats.
locate the pilot jet on the carb, note how many turns it is in or out when you remove it. clean the jet and hole it goes into really well with carb cleaner. make sure ther is no trash in the jet or hole. reinstall, makeing sure to put it back at the same amount of turns.
id invest in a service manual too. good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for the reply, I've had the carb off twice, cleaned with cleaner and compressed air. The slide was sticking(looked burnt,on the airbox side) . Got the slide to work and put it back together. Set idle mix as it was(2&1/4turns out) . It ran worse than ever.
Anybody got a better base on the pilot screw? I turned it out some more and had to shut it down before it burnt through the pipe.
THANKS

im not sure on mikuni carbs if the pilots these days regulate air or gas. if your pipe was overheating your too lean, you need to rivhen the mix. since you moved it out and thet made it worce, try starting at the 2& 1/4 out and work your way in about a half turn at a time.
if that dosnt work reset your pilot agean and work your way out a half turn at a time until your idol is good. i know on a honda the pilot jet setting is 2 5/8 turns out. 2 3/4 turns might be closer to what you need.
just trial and error now, hope this hepls
