Default Building your own cam?

well....then maybe if you stretch the frame a little bit you can fit a 289 in there...lol</end quote></div>

Ah.. a 289 is hardly a big block... Now stuff a 460 (7.5L) in there and now you are Talking!! Better yet, stuff 428 with a sixpack (no not beer) in your ATV if you want Torque.. Those FE Engines had torque I tell ya!

Actually Ford was quite successful with the FE family of engines.. That is were the 406 and the 428 came from... The 406's used to have Tri-power in the T-birds... quite a potent engine... How can you say the 428 was a bad thing? great engine -- gobs of torque! Also Ford made Cross-bolted 4 bolt mains as the blocks for those engines was down to the top of the main bearing caps... meaning that the sides of the caps were supported by the casting of the block..

I put 245,000 miles on the 360 FE which was the original engine in my 1970 Ford F-100 pickup. The next junkyard FE I bought for $300 lasted another 100,000 miles..

So I will disagree with your "Worst thing comment". Also you can't compare a 2006 Designed LS7 against an engine that was designed back before both of us were born? (1958). I agree that Chevy makes a potent engine for the corvettes.. but the FE engines has stood the test of time.

The amount of reverse engineering and inspection you would have to do in order to make your own cam that would not blow up your engine is not worth it. Buy from a source that has done all this leg work for you.

yes the cross bolt mains good idea, but still poor design, the oil pan rail goes like 3 inches past the crank centerline, really heavy casting, the 427 top oiler, bad idea! tunnel port heads! might be good for HD truck but not for racing, SOHC in the 60's yes good idea, ford TFI ign. terrible hard to work on. but all have good and bad, i can pick apart goods and bads about every push rod engine, but i'm a chevy guy all the way through
