dont own myself but iv rode my buddies. he likes it alot, great mechine for work or mudding. IRS is couchie. its not ment for high speeds, so if your a speed freak its not for you. but as a utility it is awsome. the engine/tranny have been around for years and are near bulletproof.

i would highly recomend, just do not get an 07 model

i have a 99 big bear and it has been put thru the rings of hell and back. and that was before i bought the quad. it runs as strong now as the day it was new. i got lucky and i know the guy i bought it from, so i rode it 8 years before i ever bought it.

the 07 bigbears have horribal rear diff leaks not all of them, but if you get one that leaks your comitted to putting diff seals in until you get one that mabe dosent leak. 07 was the first year they put IRS on the bb's.

some people have had no problems with there 07 bb's. im just letting you know because there are dealers with carry over 07 stock that they are trying to get ride of. i havent heard of any dealer, or yamaha for that matter, admitting any flaw in design or manufacturing.

personally i dont think its a design flaw, since the 08's are trouble free. I would be confident in the 09's being OK as well. it was probly jus bad mechineing at the production plant.

Well Star and I have a 2008 400 Big Bear IRS which is just a carry over from the 2007 as is the 2009 . We could have bought anything but this bike is exactly what we wanted to suit our lifestyle in the outdoors . It does plow duty , pulls a trailer and stumps ,even pushes full size half tons out of ditches , used for trapping ,hunting ,and icefishing let alone all the mud rides it has been in . We have over 2000 klicks on it and no issues at all unless it's that dang thumbwarmer that hasn't worked since day one and needs to be checked out for the why .

That 2007 seal leakage should be checked into if buying but it should be able to be rectified .

This bike is no speed demon for sure but I have found I can really crawl along slow in places that really slow is required because the first gear in the bike is super low and does the crawl better than most . 47 mph is about all this bike will do with Star and I on it on a downgrade and she's screaming for another gear but it's rare that I open her up to that and only for a short spurt to get any carbon out of her that may have built up .

You will find the BB very reasonable on fuel too . It's just a basic simple machine that will get you there and back . Bullet proof as any ATV can be and lots of the old 350's are still around kicking and scratching their way into the bush and so very little has changed over the years and all of it positive .

TD
