Default Big Bear Tranny problem

Looking for help. I have a 1999 Big Bear. Starts and goes into gears no problem. When i give it gas it doesn't seem to have the power that it used to. It moves forward and revs alot but really no power. I've played with that screw to tighten or loosen the clutch. Just doesn't seem to be doing anything. I noticed that there is a little oil leaking from that screw.

Thanks in advance for the help
Steph

Default Big Bear Tranny problem

has the clutch ever been adjusted on this machine before? if not, that is most likely the problem. another thing.....has the oil been changed recently? if so, was the correct grade used? you can not use anything but yamalube (or the equivalent) in the bike. the oil has to meet or exceed the JASCO rating. it has additives for the wet clutch. plain old motor oil will not work. it will make the clutch slip and eventually burn up.

i have that very same model. the clutch adjustment screw is on the left side of the case. mine did the same thing 6 months ago. it sat not running for 7 years, sent it to the stealership to get it running. took it out for the maiden voyage and the next day it was slipping horribly from 2nd gear up to 5th. loosen the lock nut on that screw, and look at the case. it says decrease and increase. turn the screw the direction of increase about half a turn, then lock the nut down and try to ride the quad. if nothing changes, repeat the process. if you do it 4 or 5 times with no results, the clutch might be screwed. the good news is that the clutch pack is about 75 bucks and you will have to change the oil after changing the clutch. if you can do this yourself, its gonna cost about 110 bucks for the clutch packs, oil and filter.

you need to order the haynes repair manual for that bike. i have that manual, and it tells you EVERYTHING and how to do it along with pictures. here is the link. the manual is like 25 bucks with shipping.
