What tires for plowing?
Hi everyone. New guy here. We have a 2003 Kodiak 450 that we bought brand new and have used sparingly. It's completely stock (and I do mean TOTALLY stock) and still works great.
Well, after a couple bad snow storms this year, I got tired of snow-blowing my driveway and decided to buy a plow for the ATV instead. I bought everything Warn: a XT25 winch, 54" Cyclone plow, etc., etc., even bought the new Power-Pivot. Oh, yeah, I went all out! A little Xmas gift to myself (well, the family). I shopped around and think I did pretty good on all of it price-wise.
Anyway, my question is on tires. I still have the stock tires on the Kodiak and they're getting a little worn. Is there a good tire to get that will help with the plowing? What about chains? Are they an option?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I also have mudlite xtr's and they are pretty awesome in the snow good in the snow( 27" helps too) . A lot better than my carlisle 489's. What you might want to ask yourself is what is the man type of riding you do all year round? Trail, mud, rock etc and then find a tire that does that well but is also good in the snow. Just at thought.

Thanks for the info so far. I live in Northeastern Massachusetts (more north than most of Southern NH), so we get anything from fluffy snow to wet sticky snow, and usually a lot of it. We got about 20 or so inches last weekend. That's what prompted the snow plow purchase.
As for riding, we haven't done too much of it lately, but I'd say it would be mostly trail riding. Nothing hardcore, just some fun trail stuff. Maybe if we got another ATV we'd do more riding.
Thanks again!

Sounds like Bighorns, Bighorn 2.0's or Terra Cross would be another good choice for you in those mixed conditions. They are also supposed to be great for trial riding (except deep mud).
We get the mixed type of precipitation here in NE PA... probably not as much as you. Still, Bighorn 2.0's will be my next tire.

I here ya rancher247!
I have only had them for a month but I have been very impressed! They handle great on the trails! Snow!!! MUD!!!! very bumpy on the roads at low speed but I really don't do that very often. I know these tires aren't the cheapest out there but form my experience you get what you pay for!!! And I am very happy with these so far!

I have bighorns on my bruteforce but I use a honda rancher to plow with and I have kenda executioners on there and they are unstopable in the snow and there much cheaper then the bighorns . The kendas are the best tire I have ever used for snow and mud and I been at this for over 20 years.
