Hello All,
I am new to this forum.
I have a '04 660 Grizzly with 1000 miles on it.
This machine was parked in PARK and now will not shift at all.
I am guessing there are multiple areas to check.
1. I see there is a cable running from the rear brake pedal over to the shift lever pedestal.... maybe the cable has stretched/broke?
2. the locking pin in the shift pedestal is stuck/ broken? This machine has been a pain to shift into gear since new.
3. I never knew until this weekend that there was a water drain tube under the shift pedestal..... maybe the water that has collected there for 4+ years has not helped matters either?
Anyway, I am ready to tear into this and wanted to see if there are any folk that might steer me in the correct direction.
Thanks
Tom

most cases its a linkage problem. get a can of lube and spray the hell out of any connection in the linkage. the way i adjust lingahes is to diconnaect the linkage somewhere, place the shifter **** into neutrail then shift the rest of the linkage into neutrail, if you know where that is.

This might be a long shot...
Not certain if you have freezing tempertures where you ride, but if water gets into the shifter housing it will freeze and nothing will move, it happened to me once.
Their is is a plastic drain tube underneath the shifter and the drain plug must be pulled out after you have thawed the ice.

Friggs,
You are exactly correct sir! I had never once in 4 years/1000 miles noticed this drain tube. I moved the bike into the shop, let everything warm up and the next day pulled the hose. The water came pouring out!
The boot that "protects" the shifter has several cracks/tears and this is where my water problem starts.
I dropped in and chatted with the service tech and he advised me to leave the drain off since I rarely if ever have this machine under water.
I have the tube stored in the box under my seat.
After spraying a bunch of Hill-Co lube in the shift lever pedestal it works like night & day!
The tech did mention that Yamaha has had their fair share of problems with this device and the even changed out complete shift levers under warranty! Too bad I never heard of this
Thanks everyone for you help!
