Transmission problems with Raptor???
#1
I have heard from several sources that the Raptor has a problem with 1st or 2nd gear failing and locking up the trans. In fact, this is why it didn't take first place in the Baja 2000. I know that's racing, but I have heard isolated instances where individuals are having this problem crop up. Has anyone got any info about how widespread this problem is, or if Yamaha is acknowledging a defect or planning a recall or anything? I'm just wondering if this is in fact a problem. Have any of you guys run into trans problems after abusive riding? Just wondering. I hope this doesn't turn into a big deal.

Nah, they said within 20 miles of the finish the tranny locked up. Could be just from hard racing though. I hadn't heard anything about it until then. There was also another Raptor with a steering stem failure. One Raptor was Doug Eichner's and the other was John Gregory's. Gregory suffered the tranny problem but did finish third.

i don't know if it will lock up or not,but i have hit a neutral spot in between gears and had to pull up again to get it to go in gear,i have spoke with a few people about this and they have experienced it to,but didn't want to be the first to post,to avoid the tards from bashing out the post again. i can put my raptor in gear and find a neutral spot in between each gear.i only hit it while in motion once or twice, but i think it was due to improper adjust ment to the linkage rod from the shifter,i had to take it off to put on my propegs, but i haven't hit the spot since i adjusted it right, they said the raptor has the same type of shifting mecanism as the 426 and you can find the same spot on a 426, i reckon i am just to picky anyway

Well fella's, I am having that nuetral problem currently. When riding hard, under load, shifting from first into second. My Raptor has been hitting nuetral. At first I thought maybe I wasn't hitting the shifter hard enough but, I am continously hitting nuetral now. It seems to have gotten worse. I have an appointment to take it in on 2/12. I have adjusted the clutch every where and it still hits nuetral.
I'm wondering? When my bike is not running, in gear, if I pull in the clutch the bike does not roll very freely. Has any of you noticed this? When any of you get a chance, let me know how your quad rolls. Again, not running, in gear, then pull in the clutch and see how it rolls. Post back for me if you would. Maybe a clutch problem? Let ya know what the shop says later next week.

Its not a clutch problem that keeps it from rolling freely, its just that the clutch loses its oil until it is restarted. I am going to guess they lost gears due to sand or silt entering the crankcase vent and getting into the lowend.
