I have an 06 grizzly 660 that only has 140 miles on it. When I took it out today for a ride it would not run in reverse. I tried to back up and it instantly died. I tried again and again and now the most it will muster is a crawl that sputters, stalls, and once in a while will back fire.
I called my local Yamaha shop and they are clueless.

Any clues?

It runs great in high and low, 2w and 4w. The only time I have a problem is in reverse.

I believe there is a reverse limiter. My Kodiak has one that keeps me from going too fast in reverse and when in 4x4 diff lock. Maybe there is a problem with the reverse limiter.

 

My 04 660 used to do that becuase my battery was weak......I replaced the battery and problem solved.
