Default gas mileage 2003 Grizzly

I have a couple questions about gas mileage on my 2003 Grizzly, I went on a ride yesterday and my gas gauge started to act up. I started with a full tank and when in 10 miles my gauge read 3/4 tank with in 3 hours I was running on E. My questions

Is there ant way to check the gaige to see if is working right?
Roughly how miles should you get on a tank of gas and I know it varies but just roughly.
Is it safe to care extra gas and what is a good gas tank to buy?
What grade of gas used you use?

Thanks for your help

From what I have heard...Grizzly gas gauges have always been inaccurate. Mine will read 2 bars left after 20 miles sometimes.. I have even had it show empty- yet it only took 2 out of the 5ish gallons to fill it back up.

At 75-100 miles I want to fill up depending upon the riding I'm doing... so if you know your only doing like 75 miles..a full tank should be fine.. of course I'm speaking about the 700 right now but hopefully someone else will chime in as I only assume a 660 would be comparable in mileage.

from my experience with my kodiak 450, i get about 17 mpg when just riding, i usually get about 50 miles out of the 3 gallon regular tank, then i bank on about 15 more miles on the reserve, which is one gallon. I got the kodiak used, and its been rejetted with an hmf utility and its turning mudlites, which might affect milage. and my riding style has to dramatically decrease my mpg, I treat the throttle like a switch, its either to the handlebars, or im not on it

Unless you top off the tank complety you'll burn thru that first quarter pretty quick. Seems for each bar will be 1 gallon and once reserve starts flashing I have the last 1.3.
And depending on how hard you ride 3 hours would be about right. I can burn thru a tank in about 3 to 4 hours.
I rode 75 miles today and I was on reserve with about 10 miles left when I was done. Some days I can only get 60-65 miles, others I can go about 100 on a tank.
Always 87 octane.
It should be safe to carry extra fuel as long as its sealed well.

If you guys are doing 75 to 100 miles on a tank you guys are doing great. That is like 120 to 160 Km. I have a kodiak and if I do 60 miles(100Km) that is good.

Hello,
I have an 08 700 Griz and a 450 Griz and last year we went to the Cheese Trail in Wisconsin and rode. We started with full tanks and we each rode the exact mileage, 60 miles. The 700 used just shy of 2 gallons, and the 450 used 1.9 gallons. 30 miles per gallon is pretty good I think. This trail is just an abandoned railroad track, all gravel and pretty flat. Most of the riding would probably been at about 20 to 25 mph but that is still pretty good I think. During a normal day where we ride it is fairly extreme riding with alot of mud and steep hills, and we will run about 30 to 40 miles and use about 2 gallons each.

Depending on throttle position and riding conditions I have gotten anywhere between 5 and 35 mpg from mine. If I drive her easy I can get more than 25 miles on reserve...which is needed only long after the gauge says empty. Full throttle on highway I get 45-50 miles out of a tank. In normal riding conditions I get much more than that!

You are the same as I am then I think? I am thinking that one bar equals a quarter of a tank? If so then I get about 2 gallons of gas in it at that point. That would be 25 mpg. The most fun you can have with a couple gallons of gas if you ask me.
