Default grizzly 660 upper front a arm puller?

Is it necessary to use a puller to remove the ball joint on the upper front a arm and the tie rod from the steering knuckle? Will some pb blast and a hammer work?

I usually just remove the bolt that clamps the knuckle to the ball joint, then drive a thin chisel into the slit that the bolt clamps down...then tap off with a hammer? lol.. and yes some PB never hurts!!!
