New 550 Grizzly Fuel Gauge.
#1
I had the opportunity this past weekend to take my new 550 for a spin. After 100kms, (60 miles) the fuel bar gauge was down to one bar but I suspect I had close to a half tanks still available. Anyone else know of what I should expect from a full tank of fuel? I am a pretty layed back kind of driver and don't really push it much.
Any opinions on this? I suspect the 700 has the same tank.

Most mid size utility ATVs ,(all makes) will get at least 90 miles safely. Use you trip meter as a gas gauge there much more reliable.
Fill up you ATV ,set the trip to zero and run the ATV until reserve, check trip reading and keep that number in your head from now on.
On My friends 660 Grizzly all the bars disappear yet the ATV can go 20 miles easily before reserve. The gauge is totally useless.
Your 550 with efi and its fairs size tank would not surprise me if it does over 100 miles before reserve.

My 700 will hold approx 2.3 gallons when I have half a tank left. Last year we rode the Cheese Trail in WI and my 700 made 30 mpg. My 450 Griz made 30.5 mpg. This was for an average speed of around 20-25 mph for 60 miles. I rode 17 miles yesterday and it was above average in pace, fairly rough and extreme conditions, and I used less than a gallon. My guage is still showing full bars. You can expect for the first few tanks to be a little worse economy till things break in a bit. If you are riding "laid back" and not romping on it I would bet that you can go well over 100 miles without running out of fuel. You have a 5.3 gallon tank so if you make 25 mpg, which you should, that would be 125 miles safely.

I have gone on 90 mile trips with my 700 and use about 3.5-4 gal. This is also at altitude of about 11.000 feet here in Co. The Grizzly's are not known for the best MPG's but they still do better than most. I would think the 550 would do pretty good on fuel as it basically the same engine as the 700! I have found that the gauge drops fairly quick though you still have a decent amount of fuel left in the tank!

Hey DodgeHemi where have you heard that Grizzly's are not that good on fuel? I have read on here that other quads in our range aren't doing any better or mostly worse than we are. Just curious as to who is saying that they aren't good on fuel. I thought that 30 mpg was very good. I have no clue what other brands are doing and would like to know. But then again there are more liars on fuel mileage than fishing. lol It surprises me that lots of people don't even know how to properly calculate their mpg.

I hear you Hemi, I would pay for my Griz before I took a Popo for free. I am just silly like that I guess. lol Some would say about me for saying that, that you can't fix stupid. lol In order for me to be convinced that any of the other brands were doing better on fuel I would have to be the one to check it against my riding style. When I ride I am almost always without fail having to pass people who are just flatdicking along. I am guessing that these people are probably making better mpg than me. A buddy of mine and I both had almost identical Bass boats and we pulled them to Branson, MO for a weekend and he was telling me how his brand new Avalanche was making 20 mpg pulling his boat. He also told me that his new Chevy was going to "show me how a real truck tows". We pulled them to Branson from St. Louis area and he gave up trying to keep up with my old Ford, and when we filled up with gas we both got about 10 mpg. I had to rub it in that his new Chev didn't have any *****. lmao.
