Question Kodiak 400 running problem

Ok so this thing has been sitting for 5 years or so and my neighbor said if i could get it running i could have it! SO i can get it to idle with the choke all the way on. The second i go to put the choke at half it dies and back fires a little and if i try to give it any throttle it like bogs and wants to die.

Anyone have any ideas?

i was having problems also with my 95 kodiak. would idle but soon as i touched the throttle it would die. i know these quads are cold blooded and need time to warm up but that was just crazy. i pulled my carb off and pulled everything out of it and cleaned it really good. now it is hard starting but once is starts it runs like a champ. still running out some old gas. i hear that the needles in the carbs varnish up real quick with older gas.

If you can (depenting if you know how) , buy a rebuild kit for $20 and rebuild the carb.

the slow speed circuit or pilot jet is plugged,,,the choke overides the circuit but as soon as the choke is off , no good ! The casb needs a good cleaning and use air pressure ,not just the squirt of carb cleaner from a can !
