What color was the smoke? It could be your air/fuel mix screw. Dose it still do it after it warms up?

smoke after sitting a while that goes away quickly is usually the valve guide seals leaking by, you won't see any smoke while running or warmed up, but a few drops get by when it sits for extended periods, then burns on start up, puff of smoke, when the oil is gone, the smoke is gone. It will run like this for a very long time, just looks bad when you first start it. Don't worry about it unless the smoke stays for a long time, that could point to other problems. Just run it for now, you could fix it, but it would involve pulling the head to do it, unless you know a way to pull the springs without removing the head.

That's a good point, dupont, he should definately look at that as well, but I would think it would take more than 5-10 sec. to burn oil off a pipe, plus the smoke would come from the front, not out the muffler.
