Default Grenaded front sprocket

My brother in laws 02 raptor 660 grenaded the front sprocket. Obviously it will have to be replaced. But upon inspection I noticed the rear end has a little play in it. (I'll try to explain) With the quad jack up and the rear hanging I can grab the wheel and shift it up and down about 1/2" or so. Wheels would look like a teeter totter veiwing from the back. Is it supposed to have play? My thoughts are the bearings have slop in them which may have caused stress in the other parts of the driveline. I don't know. I'm a popo guy and have'nt had much experiance with the yama's.

Yup, replace the carrier bearings, probably much cheaper to buy aftermarket. The chain and rear sprocket also need replacing if the front was bad enough to fail. While you are at it, tell your buddy to keep up with the preventative maintenance, OK?

Thanks for the replies guys, You confirmed What I was thinking. I've got him shopping around for a complete set of sprockets and chain plus new bearings. Hopefully I don't find anything else once I get into it. He's pretty good about the maintaining the thing, but I have a hard time believing it would go all at once. No teeth left on the front sprocket. Sometimes s#!t just happens I guess.
