Default 1989 Warrior will not rev all the way out

Hello,

I just recently bought a 1989 Warrior. Please read all the items below as I have had several unrelated problems, and I am trying to figure the final problem out!

First couple of hours riding were OK.

Then, the quad would cut out with just a little bit of throttle. I SOLVED this, and fixed it by disabling the parking brake.

After this, the quad started knocking something fierce. Also, the engine would not rev completely out. It revved MUCH higher than with the parking brake problem, but it lost power at high rpm's I just figured it was noisy valves!

Well, last night, I decided to check the valve clearance. Intake valve had a MAJOR issue: the locknut for the valve tappet came off! I found the nut down in the head, but it did not look like it did any damage. I corrected the clearance this evening, and loctite-ed the threads so it will not happen again.

However... I still have some sputtering and very high rev's. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

Tomorrow night is dedicated to cleaning the carb, so maybe that will fix it.

I appreciate any ideas!

Thanks,

dgilfillen
