Was out Prez weekend in Dumont, CA, bike was running good but not at best. Went out for a small ride with wife riding raptor and then walla....She heard a pop and the bike stopped running. Would not restart. At time thought rod broke. Towed it back to camp....took it to Yamaha first thing that Monday. Come to find out Carb. detached itself, sucked in a bunch of sand. Yamaha waranteed it, cleaned it out and did a slight modification to help prevent from future happening. Mechanic told me he just got back from tech meeting and this was a issue that other raptors had, problem was clamp wasn't able to be fully tightened and a piece (spacer) needed to be removed so clamp can be fully tightened. They said this was caused by back fire or low idle rpms that causes vibration to detach.
Any one else with problem? They said Yamaha has recognized problem

Yes, I have had this problem as well. The primary problem, in my opinion, is a lean idle circuit. Secondary problems are the carbs vibrate when the idle is too low, the carb clamps will not tighten up, and idle circuit fuel mixture distribution is uneven when the idle mixture screws are set "as-recommended". Even when the spacers are taken out of the clamps and fully tightened, you can grab the carbs and drag them right out of the intake boots. I can't understand why more Raptor riders are not complaining about this problem.

I havent noticed any problems with the carb but I havent got a lot of hours on my raptor just havent had time to ride but anyway I not that mechanically inclined and I bet most others are not as well so we really dont know what to look for. I come here to learn more about my raptor so I have enjoyed the recent posts on the carb and swingarm linkage!
