Grizzly 450 hesitates going into gear (forward or reverse)
Didn't have this problem till lately. Bought it with 170 miles, and now has around 270.
If in neutral or park, when I put it in forward or reverse, it takes a few seconds to engage ( gear indicator light comes on immediately, but it doesn't engage), and most of the time I have to "feather" the gas to get it to engage. Sometimes if I don't feather the gas it won't engage. ???
Goes into park or neutral fine though.
I called a Yamaha service dept. today, and they say that the gear linkgage needs adjusted. he says this is normal after the initial couple hundred miles, and it could be corrected. He told me to bring it in for it's 20 hr checkup ($69) and he'll go over everything and adjust the gear cable. Why only $69 is because I already changed oil and gear lube in both, since they both had 20 hrs+ on them. They just plan on a basic "go over" & adjusting any cables needed, and greasing.
Am I wasting my time/$$$ doing so?
Jeff
P.S. Actually the 09 Grizzly 450 I just bought last week (07 is my sons)seems to do this also, but not as noticeable. It only has 100 miles on it.
Also, owner's manual says that idle should be between 1450 & 1550 rpms. Both of my 450's "seem" to idle lower than that. Can it be that they are idling too low to engage the
gear/sheave?
Thanks in advance!

Hey Jeff,
The shift linkage needs to be adjusted
Follow Hefty-Lefty's advice:
http://forums.atvconnection.com/yama...g-problem.html
Not sure if the low idle is part of the problem or not. The adjustment takes about 10-15 at best.
Also if you want a copy of the 03-06 Kodiak 450's (same as Grizz 450's up to 07, 08 and up have different rear diff/ rear brakes. and a few other minor changes.
Shoot me an email @ snowwmax@yahoo.com
