Blue Raptor 1. Honda Civic 0

Andrew,
It has already been alluded to, but think about it this way.
At 60 mph, a mile is covered in 60 seconds, 1/2 mile in 30 and 1/4 mile in 15 seconds.
So if a car runs a quarter mile in 15 sec. flat, regardless of how fast it's going at the end, it's average speed is still 60 mph over that distance and time.
No2stroke's Raptor can take off good enough that even if it will only run 80 or so on top end, he is reaching that speed very quickly, allowing him to have a higher average speed than 60 mph in the quarter mile.
Regardless of whose terminal speed is higher, the one with the highest average speed is the one that crosses the finish line first.

No2StrokeBs,
Did you take off hard from the starting line? And in what gear.
I would love to take my Banshee down to the track at Mansfield. They have a 1/4 mile or 1/8 (I cant remember) and run some of those rice burners, hehe.
I was just curious since I have never really raced hard on pavement.
Thanks and it sounds like a blast!

I am taking off in first gear, and im not taking off very hard, just kinda walking it out of the hole. I am giving it as much throttle as i can without flipping it over backwards. Now my Banshee is a differenst story, I rev it to the moon and dump it, most of the time it spins a little then hooks and goes. It kills my Raptor for the first 3 gears, but then the Raptor starts to pull it on the top end. We have always raced our quads on the streets against cars. Just a side note, a lowered Banshee with pipes, cool head and 68 cc domes(I think) will beat most stock 5.0s and LT-1 Camaros through the quarter mile, COOL HUH!

Andrew Thomas,
Sure I know what you mean, but what you are not understanding is that what you described wouldn't qualify for "averaging 60 mph". You might go far enough to get it to average 59.9999999, but if you never went faster than 60 mph, you couldn't take off from any speed lower than that and still have that average.
Here's another illustration:
The Raptor goes down to the gas station and buys a lotto ticket and wins $100 and then plays for the next 6 days and only wins $10 per day.
The Honda Civic goes to the same station and buys a ticket, but only wins $50 and for the next 6 days, wins $15 per day.
It looks like from day 2 to day 6 that the Civic is catching up in his winnings since he wins more than the Raptor during those days, but when the total is tallied, the Raptor is still ahead in winnings.
It's the same way in the race reported on in this topic. What mattered was who crossed the finish line first and that is whoever covered the 1/4 mile in the least amount of time. The Raptor jumps out ahead so far at take off, that the Civic, despite it's faster speed in the end, can't get to the 1/4 mile mark faster than the Raptor.
Well, that's about all I can do to try and help explain this. By the way, the lotto is for those who are mathematically impaired.

Bash,
I know what you are saying. I would think a Civic would have at least a decent holeshot being you can probably dump the clutch & barely spin the tires
Tell be honest I'm surprised a Raptor goes that fast (80mph) even with mods.
No 2 strokes,
As far as holding a quad open that long. When I first got my Scrambler 400L they told me the motor was like a small sled motor. They said I could hold it open all day long no problem ! Somehow I just can't bring myself to do it
I used to have an 82 GT 5.0 (first year for the GT 5.0) I had the tremec 5 speed tranny, hoosier DOT slicks, Southside bars, Weld Draglites, Autometer whiteface gauges on the hood etc etc. Damn I miss that sound of 5 liters of small block Henry screaming through a speed shifted Tremec !
The 360 in my Dodge Off road pkg truck is OK, But the big truck just ain't the same
Half the fun was letting my friends drive the Mustang & seeing them grin from ear to ear!

It is all relative i guess. Problem is that i was reving my Stang up to 5 grand and dumping the clutch with slicks on it to get it to run a 13.3. but all a 40 year old bleach blonde in a new Vette has to do is stomp the gas. It was pretty quick before Chevy came out with the LS-1. It would handle most Lt-1 cars, and a few 5.0s. Hold on, isnt this some kind of 4-wheeler forum?

That sounds great that a Raptor will do those times!! I cant wait til I can get mine out to a track and try for myself! I have a civic and a 100 shot of NOS and it only ran 8.0's in the 1/8 and 12.20's in the 1/4 at 111.58mph. Now I have a turbo on it its a t3/to4e and at 14psi of boost it runs a 7.3@96 mph in the 1/8 and 11.30's@121mph in the 1/4 mile. I have two sites to check it out, the first one is when I had the NOS and the 2nd one is not finshed but it has shot of the turbo and the engine. Enjoy!
