Warrior starter knock + Engine Knock!! HELP!!!
#1
when i turn over my 96 warrior with the e/s the starter makes a horrible knocking sound but does turn over the engine.. and it takes a while for it to start and when it does start the engine has a ticking/knocking sound to it.. i can feel it knocking mostly by the left side cover by the flywheel.. im pretty sure my stator is going cause its a bitch to start cold but once it does start up and get warmed up it idles and runs and drive fine.. is the motor knocking something i should worry about.. and is it hard to replace a stator? and the starter??.. if someone could help me out id appreciate it!

I just picked up a 96 Warrior that does the same thing...from what I've read, it's the starter clutch that is making all the racket. Seems like it is a very common thing and even replacing it with new doesn't guarentee that it won't come back within a year. Everyone seems to say that it will make a lot of noise and still work for a long time. I'm letting mine go until it gets to the point that it won't turn the engine over.

That sound is most likely the starter clutch. That is a common noise in the Warrior but the noise should stop after the engine is running. If it continues after the motor is running, the starter clutch may be sticking which could end up wearing out the starter.
