I am looking for a new ATV and considering the Wolverine because I want a 4x4 this time around. I want something that is going to also have speed which I know that the Wolverine is probably the fastest sport/utility ATV out there. However, I want something that can also do some serious mud bogging as well. How good is the Wolverine in the mud and what is the biggest mud tire you can put on it?? Or should I look for something like a Big Bear or Arctic Cat400/500??? And by the way what is the best atv in the mud??? Any Help would be Much Appreciated.

Thanks,

I would say get a prairie 400 4x4 because 1) i have a prairie 300 2x4 and it will hang wit da 4x4's in tha mud so tha 400 4x4 will def. do it 2) a prairie 400 4x4 has ALOT of power and will pull whatever tires u want to put on it and will max out at about 56 mph.

You could also get a Grizzly 600 because my friend has one and it will out mud almost any 4x4 out there and it will go about 65 mph.

Or you could just wait until the Kawasaki Prairie 650 4x4 comes out because with a diff. locking option and 650 cc's of power it will out mud, race, etc. any other atv out there.

Your right about the Wolverine being the fastest sport/utility because it is the only sport/ utility. The Wolverine may have trouble turing 26" mud tires in the thick stuff though. The Xplorer 400 is a sporty machine for a utility quad because of it's 2 stroke motor. You could also get a Scambler 500 4x4 and but on the optional racks to make it a sport/utility quad and the Polaris all have true 4wd which is the best action for mudding rather than a front diff. machine with no lockers.

I have a 2000 Wolverine. I put Goodyear Munrunners all the way around, 25x10x12 rear, 25x8x12 front. The bigger tires cut my speed down, but I go every where the Big Boys go and then some. I really like this Quad. Its perfect for me. I didn't think I would like the all time 4 wheel drive but I got used to it. I go up every hill with no problem. Goodluck with the Quad hunting.

I have never had a problem with my wolverine in the mud,It is quick and nimble, and the question is can all the big boys hang with the wolverine,
I see guys buying the biggest and the so called fasted quad for the woods, they always stop and ask me 'Thats only a 350?'(as they shake their heads) Yep and at only 480lbs. Lean and mean.

If you run the 25" tires you can run with thhe big dogs all right!! I run with 2 Wolverines ,, one with stock tires and one with 25" Bearclaws,K@N fiter and jet kit.The one with bearclaws walks all over the other and is a major pain in my side.We also routinely trounce a pair of prairies and can run circles around a Griz' in the woods.I'm telling you this about the Wolverine grudgingly, eh?

What big boys? I find it funny that the Wolverine gets compaired to by quads that are almost twice their size. As far as mudding, as long as you don't go with to big of a tire, it will hang with any other quad thats out there! I would love to have the chance to ride with the guys from Texas and see just how bad they really are. I ride with a bunch os SP500's an can go everywhere they can. The last time we went to Land Between the Lakes, we had 4 Honda 450's with 28" vamps follow us around the mud holes, and they couldn't beleive the mud my Wolverine would go through. (they wouldn't follow me!) The Wolv is an old design that is still hard to beat.

I have a '96 wolv with 25" bear claws on it. I had to go with a FMF pipe, Dynojet kit, and K&N air filter just to get it as fast as a stock machine again, but now nothing can touch it in the mud. Well, almost nothing.... one of those ugly Bombardier Traxters walked all over every bike, including mine at the last poker run I was on, but you don't see many of those out there.
