Default 06 pro national YFZ 450, how do i know when to replace clutch plates, and..

when do i know when to replace the clutch plates, and when i hold in the clutch and click it into first gear the shifter like studders before it clicks in, any ideas on what this could be? thanks

well, the short easy answer is: When clutch plates are worn- they will slip. Your motor rpm's will raise but you wont go any faster. A good test of clutch condition is simply "popping" the clutch while in gear- if the motor stalls, they are grabbing. Sometimes it'll make noise, or smell.

The plates are extremely easy to replace, I wouldn't wait for them to start slipping imo. On the other hand, the bike will rev but not move as fast like beergut stated. If they are real bad you may smell them, and I have seen motors that overheat when the clutch plates are slipping also. Not sure on the other issue.
