Unhappy 2002 Raptor won't start. Please help.

I am completely new to this atv and I was told to check the fuel, compression, and firing......I did a simple version of each without taking it to a shop and those 3 all checkout. It was running fine last year before we parked it for the winter.....any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

drain the carb, put fresh gas in the tank, change the spark plug.

Did you take the carb to the shop by itself? how long has it been sitting? if it ran fine last year then there is no reason why it should run fine now. Try starting it with the choke on. pull the plug to see if its wet or dry. If its wet, dry it off try starting it while holding the throttle wide open with the choke off. If the plug is dry then it's not getting fuel, try pumpimg the throttle some when you role it over.

No I took the entire atv to them. It's been sitting since end of summer beginning of fall last year. I tried with choke on, without it on. I pulled the plug and checked and it's wet....it is getting fuel. I tried the throttle pump to no envy.

the reason I asked is the shop should have ran it after cleaning the carb To check function. If the plus wet then the engine is flooding. If they didn't run it it's possible the float is stuck which will give your engine way more gas then needed. Plug your sparkplug into the plug wire, touch it to the motor, roll the motor over to make sure the plug isn firing. Leave the plug out don't touch the choke or throttle and roll the motor over several times and clear out all the extra gas from the cylinder, put the plug back in and try it again. All else fails take it to the shop that cleaned the carb and have them get it running for you.

Hey Roy just wanted to give you a follow-up since you took the time to help me out. I took my quad to another repair man and he got it running....turns out the other guy just did not know how to properly clean a carburetor and that's all it took! So $100 later on cleaning and another 80 on a tire and she's running like brand new again.

thats great to hear. At least it turned out to be something simple. anytime you are going to let it sit for any length of time put stablizer in your gas. It will keep the carb from gumming up as it sits.I use it all the timein my fuel. Mainly because my quad could sit for 3 weeks or more before I ride it again.

Cleaning the carbs and setting float height is simple and not time consuming, save yourself $100 and do it yourself next time. Just read up here beforehand before diving in.
I would go back to the first stealership with both bills and demand my money back.
