Default 2001 Kodiak 400 4x4 really slow top speed

I have huge mud tires on it and i realize that will slow it down but im only getting 37 mph. It seeems to run perfect but i bought it used so im not sure if something is slipping or whats up..Anybody heard of this problem or do the tires really slow it down that much?

If its like my 350 Big Bear its just geared low, it would scream it top gear at 40 mph and your always looking for a 6th gear thats just not there. Not much you can do about it the ATV is a hard core utility ATV with its gearing.

Ok on the trails but everyone had to wait up for me on the faster logging roads sections.

Do you have the 401cc, Liquid-Cooled motor with belt drive or the 386cc, Air Cooled with 5 speed?

The 401 should hit 50 mph but the 5 speed is geared low.
