Default 2004 Yamaha kodiak 450 motor oil

The Yamaha shop closed by my house, Cannot get yamahalube anymore.
Does any one know of a comparable motor oil I can get,,,,,
Their is a Honda shop close but Honda's do not have the wet clutch transmission.
I called the the parts guy there and he did not sound convincing on the oil I should get.
I do not want to screw up my clutch.

Hello,

Can you get Amsoil off the shelf locally?? Or know a dealer?? If so, the 0W40 is wet clutch safe.

AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke® 0W-40 Synthetic Motor Oil

Shell Rotella T6 5W40 is also wet clutch safe.

Just look for the 'JASO' rating on the jug, as that indicates it is wet clutch safe.

How do you like the 450??

Hope this helps.

Hi, I just used Castrol 4T full synthetic 10w40 in my Wolverine 450 which I think is the same engine as in your Kodiak. It is wet clutch safe and you can find it at a local Advanced Auto or Autozone. Mobil1 has a comparable product as well for motorcycles. Not cheap though, both between $9.50 - $10 a quart. I put very little mileage on though so it is a small price for great oil.

Autozone has a couple brand of motorcycle oils (mobil 1 comes to mind mainly) without anti-friction modifiers. I used yamalube a few times, til I got tired of driving by the dealership. I've just hit Autozone or O'reilly lately when I needed it. Everyone raves about Amsoil, but I've never seen it in a store in my life or I would have tried that.

I think you got confused!!! Your Yamaha Don;t have an wet clutch...It's belt drive So it doesn't use your engine oil...So any Oil would be fine in it... Belt is sealed up from getting wet....Honda automatic uses engine oil BECAUSE the transmission is inside the crankcase...Thats an wet clutch. So you would be fine with your chioce of atuomotive oil....just get the right weight....But I would recommend syntheic tho...

I have to disagree with you. The Grizzly does have a wet clutch, using oils not approved for them will cause problems. You need oils without friction modifiers, or your into some costly repairs.
