back-yard Engine modification on Bear Tracker 250?
#1
Hey all, i just bought a 02 Bear Tracker from a coworker. IT runs fine, but only on half choke... I have yet to do a cleaning, but after looking around at other forums, it sounds like i may need to rejet the carb. Im thinking this because my co-worker informed me that the owner before him, and i quote, "did something to the engine to give it a few more horsepower."
Anybody have a inkling as to what he could have done? It does seem like its got a lot of ***** in the lower end of the spectrum, as it will easily spin tires even with my fat *** on it, im 5'10 and 250lbs. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I want my baby running right for the trails

Given that its like 10 minutes to remove and replace the carb, Id try a $3.00 can of carb cleaner before rejetting it.
I looked at putting a cotton fiber filter on mine, but I can't get past the thought that I ride through a lot of streams and mud.

Took a while to get back here, but I've taken the carb off and cleaned it. twice. and soaked it once. It still will NOT run without the choke at 1/2 setting. I performed a compression test today, and came up with 92psi. Standard is 128psi, with the low limit being 114psi. Could low compression cause it to not run with the choke off? Regardless, an engine tear down and boring .5mm over is in the future.
