Shifting Prob on 2001 Wolv.
#1
Hey everybody,
I own a 2001 Blue wolverine. a few times while i am driving I have been shifting up from one gear to the next and it almost goes half way and doesn't ingauge either but if you don't stop it kind of grinds it. Has this Happened to anybody else? are there any ajustments that can help this, was it just a fluke? I'm just looking for some feedback.
Thanks,
Evan Wolf, 15

I have a '96 Wolv, and at the beginning of the winter I noticed I was experienceing the same problems you are describing. The only change I had made that I could think of, was that I put Castrol 5w30 motor oil in it for the winter. I recently put 10w40 motorcycle oil in it, now that the weather is warming up, and I took it out for a 6 hour run with no problems. It could be coincidence, but it could be the oil you're running. I know some people will disagree with me, but I strongly believe you shouldn't use any synthetics, oil additives or treatments, and always use motorcycle oil, not just car oil. I'm not a bike mechanic, but I'm sure the clutches in your bike are in the oil, so what you are running for oil will affect how it shifts. Aside from that, I should point out that yamaha's are notorious for being stiff shifters, so you may just have to get used to putting a little muscle into your shifting.
