Default Final Question...YFM225S Shifting Problem

Well guys, the basic rebuild is complete, the Moto-4 runs like new, not bad for my first full rebuild..nothing can compare to that feeling. One problem though, HI and Lo as well as reverse shift flawlessly...except for shifting out of first gear (I tried this with both HI and LO). It will shift, but only after a few seconds and it's a slow and gradual shift...it's as if it's not fully in gear, but gradually kicks in and like I said, runs fine afterwards. It does this through the other gears as well. So a quick recap:

> Shifts fine with the lever into HI, LO and Reverse
> First gear operates flawlessly
> 2nd through the rest of the gears will eventually "fall" into gear but it's not like it should.

I've done nothing with the transmission and I will recap if you haven't seen my other posts...it was basically a giveaway from a friend and I picked it up halfway stripped apart, and it has been sitting for a while so could it simple need ran? I have no understanding of how these clutches work so could it be worn, need adjusted or is it just plain shot. Thanks to everyone here for tons of help, couldn't have gotten this far without ya.

It sounds to me like your clutch is slipping, it may need new clutch plates.

Well after riding some more, it does seem to be slipping, ease on the throttle and it moves fine, give it a good bit of throttle and it slips. But now I'm having other issues, can't kill the engine with the switch or key, what is that about?

Ok, after more riding, I'm hoping the clutch needs adjustment. I have no idea the shape and age of the clutch, so I'm assuming it just needs adjusted. So here's a more in depth description of what's going on.

> Hard jerk and forward movement when shifting into first from neutral.
> Burning smell, not sure if excess carb cleaner, or other cleaners and solvents used or possibly clutch...hope not.
> Using Synthetic oil.
