I've saw a few people out riding with chatter boxes so that they can communicate with their buddies without having to stop and yell through their helmets. Have any of you used one? How are they? Thanks.

I leave mine at home. Very peaceful while riding.

We use them on our street bikes but not on the quads. They are very helpful out on the street.

I bought a pair of AudioVox FRS540 radios that support VOX ( Voice Activated). The ATV club I belong to uses FRS radios, so you can monitor and determine "What is going on at the front of the line" or "Why are we stopping now?" or "Which way did they go?"
I use them for Quadding, Snowmobiling and when we are camping or at the beach with the kids.
Nice part is they are small (fit in the palm of your hand.) So they easily fit in a shirt pocket.
VOX = no pushing buttons, just talk.
Portable = Not attached to your helmet.
Less than $100 for two! Not $300 for

Myself, my brother, and my cousin all have chatter boxes, and I wouldn't want to be without one. What we often do, is someone with a box will ride in the rear of the pack, and one in the front. That way, if there is a problem with anyone in the pack, the guy in the rear can tell the guy in the front, who can then stop. It's great for safety too. You can warn the guy behind you about obsticles ahead of him. It saved me once last may when I accidently backed off a very steep and deep embankment in the middle of the night. My cousin who was with me, was able to find me because I told him over the comunicator that I was going over, and that I had crashed. He came back to where he knew the cliff was, and came down and found me. I was injured, and he helped me get back up. They seem to be fairly reliable, but we always put a baggie on ours just to make sure they don't get any wetter than necessary. You can also hook a walkman up to them and listen to tunes. I like mine so much now, that if I'm out with some guys that don't have one, I almost feel lonely with noone to talk to. I think they're a great investment.
