So i took my Big Bear to the shop and got it all tuned up and ready to ride. But since I got it home it seems to be harder to shift. Now it was never "Honda" smooth but I got used to it. But now it's so tight it takes a lot of effort to shift. I was just wondering if maybe the shop adjusted something that was related to this? I see there is an adjustment above the shifter on the side of the motor, but I've never messed with it. Could that have an effect on it? I can deal with it but it's irritating, and my wife can't really ride it in it's present state. I would appreciate any insight. Thanks in advance.

 

go ahead and mess with that adjuster.i had to with mine.it took a few times till i got it right but it works great now.

 

Did it make it easier to shift? It's really stiff now.

 

yes you can tighten or loosen it.like i said ,i had to play with it to get it right.it probably got adjusted as part of the tune up.try it

Well I got my shifting problem fixed. It turns out that the shifter was hitting the bottom of the engine case whenever we tried to shift up. I tried to figure out a way to move the shifter out a bit, but I finally just grabbed it and have it a good yank. Problem solved, I bent it out just enough to clear the engine, took it for a ride and now it shifts smooth as butter. Just thought I'd post this for anyone else experiencing this. Thanks for the advice.
