I sprayed WD40 in the cylinder and that brought it up to about 92lbs. The chain has a little slack, but doesn't look bad. My thought was a timing issue. Could it be a flywheel key or maybe a cdi issue? I hate to tear into it too deep until I know I'm going in the right direction. thanks again...

I hear you on that one. I'm also working on a 95 80cc badger...I'm going to pick up a compression tester tomorrow and will know better what i got. I adjusted my valves and was able to start but with great difficulty. I laid on the start button for about 10-15 seconds to get to finally kick over. I cleaned the carb/jets and I still can't get on the throttle without losing power. I did the finger test and it feels like barely any compression.

For you with bad compression.
I have heard that it's fairly common to have build ups of carbon in and around the valve seats making them not to seal properly.

How do you go about removing the carbon?
do you have to take the head aprt or can you use some sort of cleaner?

You have to take the head off, this build ups are hard and have to be scraped off.

hopefully I don't have to take it apart...I still need to pick up a compression tester and see the results. Thanks for the info.

Well, I pulled it's head off. Piston, rings, and cylinder look good. I'll take the head apart and check out the cam and valves next. Would running it with tight valves mess up the valve seat? This is my theory right now.

I'm at that same stage...My exhaust valve looked good but the intake valve
was shot. I have the same question you do since my intake valve is very thin and sharp. I wonder how much a machine shop would charge to cut down the seat to the proper angle?

As stated earlier 142 lbs is min compresson.
I installed new valves in mine because they where sharp. They where like $20 eachand I just lapped them in by hand.

Was the valves your only problem? or did you have piston/rings issues also? I'm waiting on my valves to come in. I will just lap them in and replace the rings and head gaskets and see if that does the trick....thanks.
