Backup light needed on a 2003 kodiak 450
#3
I would think you could just mount a light of your choice out back . Then wire it up to a switch or get fancy and wire it up so it goes on when you put your machine in reverse . OPT should be able to tell you what to tap into if you go that option . My choice on a rear light would be a Rigid Industries single row mini they have many to choice from .

I'd like to add a led light to the back of my bike for night riding with a relay but I don't know what wire to tie into for it to work. Hate backing up in the dark and not knowing where I'm going or what I'm gonna hit.

If yours is like my 2000 Kodiak, the reverse "switch" in the transmission removes ground for the relay. This relay then completes the ground for the Reverse Indicator light. Wire the backup light to have power and then run the ground wire to the same side of the relay as the Red Reverse Indicator light. This way, when you your red light is on, the backup light should be on.

I have not done this to mine yet. You just got me thinking about it. So, I looked up the wiring diagram in the downloadable manual. The existing relay, it should be the red one, is the reverse relay. It is deenergized to complete the circuit and supply a ground to the reverse indicator light. If you tap into the wiring before that relay, it could then also provide a ground for your backup lights.
